About The Old Cartlodge - Cake Makers
The Old Cartlodge began its life in 1984 as a successful and popular tearoom, run from a redundant farm building at Dunley Hill farm on the North Downs near Dorking, Surrey.
With an ever increasing demand for cakes that customers could take home, a business has blossomed and now produces hand made cakes that look and taste like those that ‘granny used to make’.
Recipes range from the traditional to the more unusual, but every cake is unique with a non ‘production line’ presentation, allowing restaurants, retail outlets and busy parents to market them as truly ‘home made’.
The Old Cartlodge is run by Paul Medland, who took over the company in 2001. Paul joined the family business when his aunt retired and still maintains the same methods of baking that were used in the early days.
With a small team of bakers and finishers, we produce cakes from some of the original recipes. As the orders increase the batch sizes stay the same, thereby maintaining the quality of the product. Based on the family farm, set in the beautiful North Downs of Surrey, we truly are the closest you can get to a ‘hand made Cake Company’.
All of our cakes are packaged and delivered by hand. We use our own transport to ensure that the cakes arrive in perfect condition. By doing this we are able to offer a high level of customer service and keep in touch with the people that sell our produce.
To reduce our impact on the environment we use recycled vegetable boxes for our deliveries and we use minimal packaging to keep our cakes fresh.
